Dear Lorenzo,
Unfortunately, I do not have more precise references than those given in my post on SaintMychal.com.
The first two quotes and references (relative to gays) come from Lucien Gregoire’s book, “Murder in the Vatican.” I tried to look up other sources on google.com to confirm these quotes, but found none (except the third quote, on the Motherhood of God, quoted in L’Osservatore Romano; this is confirmed by other internet sources).
This lack of confirmation of the first two quotes by other internet sources does not mean they’re not genuine. First, there is very little in print about +Papa Luciani (Gregoire’s book is the only biography now in print, although used copies of Yallop’s book can be found). Second, most of Luciani’s quotes and writings were made before there was the internet. Third, it appears that Rome is trying to “clean up” his more radical history to pave the way for his beatification.
The credibility of these quotes may come down to the credibility of the author (Gregoire) and his ability to produce physical copies of original documents – just the way it was 15 years ago, before there was the internet. I wished Gregoire had been more rigorous in citing his sources-- perhaps if he had published photocopies of some of the documents in his book.
“Murder in the Vatican” is well worth reading. Many amazing quotes are attributed to Luciani including his support of artificial birth control, liberal views on divorce, and greater democracy in Church governance. And I have confirmed many of these other quotes by other internet sources (but not the quotes on “gays”).
There is enough documentation of +Papa Luciani’s radical views generally to at least support the PLAUSIBILITY of his radical views on gays. However, this may be difficult to PROVE without producing physical documents.
Here is the website for Gregoire’s book:

Here is Lucien Gregoire’s personal email: Vatican@att.net
(He says he will answer all questions).
(...) God bless you,
John
